Central Avenue tells you a lot about this neighborhood’s edgy-meets-inviting atmosphere.
Plaza Midwood’s main thoroughfare, Central Avenue, is a blend of consignment shops, patio sitting eateries, and eclectic retail. A melting pot, both in terms of people and places, Plaza Midwood was once a streetcar suburb. Its boundaries weren’t established until the 1970s, but by then, two hubs, The Plaza (the borough’s backbone) and Midwood (one of the area’s largest subdivisions), were already one. With a combination of homes built decades apart, Plaza Midwood has developed a vibrant personality that marries trendy with quirky and old with new.
